Zoom Sails Migration Case Study
Moving an established website to a new platform does not always mean redesigning it from scratch. With Zoom Sails, the goal was much more practical: move an existing 29-page Weebly website to Wix Studio, preserve the content and familiar look of the site, and make sure the new version worked properly across modern devices. The main website was recreated in Wix Studio.

The Challenge
Zoom Sails already had a substantial website rather than a simple brochure page. The site included sections for cruising and racing sails, small boats, accessories, information about the company and manufacturing, ordering and servicing, as well as news, articles, media and contact pages.
The existing site had been built on Weebly, a platform that remains easy to use but has changed relatively little compared with newer website-building systems. We cover its current strengths and limitations in more detail in our Weebly review.
For Zoom Sails, the migration had two competing requirements. The site needed to move away from Weebly, but there was no reason to discard content, branding or a structure that visitors were already familiar with.
This was therefore a migration and rebuild rather than a full redesign.
The main priorities were to preserve the existing information, recreate the pages in Wix Studio, maintain a recognizable visual identity and make the new site work consistently on desktop and mobile. Wherever possible, improvements were made without turning the project into a completely different website.

The Migration
The 29 website pages were rebuilt in Wix Studio using the existing Weebly site as the reference.
Instead of treating every page as a separate design project, the first step was to recreate the elements used throughout the website: navigation, typography, page widths, buttons, recurring sections and footer structure. These could then be reused while the individual pages were transferred.
The existing copy and visual assets were retained where appropriate. Layouts were adjusted for Wix Studio rather than trying to reproduce every Weebly setting literally. This was especially important for responsive behavior, because the two platforms handle layouts differently.

After the content was in place, the site was reviewed for page layout, navigation, links and mobile presentation.
Before and After – Design
A key part of this project was keeping Zoom Sails recognizable.
The Wix version continues to use the existing logo, sailing photography, core copy and familiar navigation. Someone who already knows the Zoom Sails website should not feel as though they have arrived at a completely different company after the migration.
At the same time, the rebuild provided an opportunity to clean up the way the content behaves on smaller screens.
On the old mobile homepage, for example, contact and social elements occupied a significant amount of vertical space, while navigation and content blocks followed the limitations of the existing Weebly layout. In the Wix Studio version, these elements could be reorganized into a more compact responsive layout while retaining the same content.
The result is intentionally evolutionary rather than dramatic: the website still looks like Zoom Sails, but it is now rebuilt on Wix Studio.
Performance Before and After
We also ran mobile Lighthouse tests on the old Weebly homepage and the recreated Wix Studio homepage.
The purpose was not to claim that every Wix site is automatically faster than every Weebly site. Performance depends on the individual website, its assets and how it is built. For this specific migration, however, the new version produced better results across several important measurements.

The improvement is visible not only in the overall Lighthouse scores but also in the individual loading metrics. The Performance score increased by 19 points, or 35%, from 54 to 73, while Accessibility improved by 18 points, or 22%, reaching a score of 100.
The loading measurements improved even more noticeably. First Contentful Paint became 31% faster, dropping from 3.5 seconds to 2.4 seconds. Largest Contentful Paint improved by 49%, from 12.9 seconds to 6.6 seconds, meaning the main visible content appeared in roughly half the time. Speed Index was reduced by 50%, from 6.8 seconds to 3.4 seconds.
The biggest relative change was in responsiveness: Total Blocking Time fell by 80%, from 350 ms to just 70 ms. Best Practices and SEO remained unchanged at 100. Cumulative Layout Shift moved from 0 to 0.009 and therefore remained very low in the Wix Studio test.
The Result
The Zoom Sails project shows what a Weebly-to-Wix migration can look like when the existing website does not need to be reinvented. The content and recognizable visual identity were retained, while the layouts were rebuilt for the new platform and adjusted for responsive use.
The result was not only a Wix version that remained familiar to existing visitors. The Lighthouse Performance score improved by 35%, Accessibility by 22%, First Contentful Paint became 31% faster, Largest Contentful Paint 49% faster, and the Speed Index was cut in half. Total Blocking Time showed the largest improvement, falling by 80%.
For an established Weebly site, that is often the point of a good migration: keep what already works, replace the platform underneath it, and improve the parts that benefit from being rebuilt.
